You’ve probably Googled once or twice on how to pronounce this classic drink from Brazil. Regardless if you can get the accent and pronunciation right, what you should always remember is that this is a classic cocktail for a reason. Served on the rocks, this fruity and fresh beverage is perfect for summer afternoons, and when you live in the tropics it’s summer pretty much every day of the year. Add caipirinhas to your repertoire at home and you won’t regret it! It pairs great with grilled meat since the bright notes of the drink cuts through the richness of the meat. The next time you have a backyard barbecue try out this drink, it’s easy enough to make since you only need a few ingredients.
Ingredients:
5 limes
3 teaspoons of sugar
¾ cup of cachaça (Brazilian rum)
Ice
Directions:
Juice 2 or 3 limes until you can fill ⅓ of a cup.
For the remaining 2 limes, cut them up into pieces.
Add the cut up limes and sugar to a glass and muddle it. The juice should extract from the lime pieces and it should mix with the sugar to help it dissolve.
Add the lime juice that you prepared.
Add the cachaça and stir together until everything is incorporated and the sugar has fully dissolved. It might take a minute or two.
Fill a couple of glasses with ice and pour in the caipirinha.
Notes:
You may adjust the amount of sugar to your taste. You can also use brown sugar or raw cane sugar.
If you cannot get cachaça specifically, then use any white rum.
If rum is not available, you can substitute tequila or vodka, but the taste will be somewhat altered.
