Classic Cocktail Of The Month: Martini

A Martini, whether you prefer it made with vodka or gin is loved by many all around the world. Shaken or stirred, olives or cocktail onions, dirty or dry. There are so many variations and you can customize it as you like, which is probably why it is iconic. It not only looks classy but also brings an air of elegance to the person drinking it. That’s probably why it’s James Bond’s favorite cocktail. This month, let us take a look into how you can make it at home and how you can add your flair to this classic cocktail.

Classic Martini with Olives
Ingredients:
  • 2 ½ ounces of gin

  • ½ ounce of dry vermouth

  • 1 dash of orange bitters

  • A lemon twist for garnish

Directions:
  1. In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker add ice and all the ingredients except for the lemon twist.

  2. Stir or shake, until the mixture is very cold.

  3. Strain it into a chilled martini glass or cocktail glass.

  4. Add a lemon twist and serve.

Notes:
  • To create a Dirty Martini, you can remove the orange bitters from the list of ingredients and replace it with ½ ounce of olive brine. You can also replace the lemon twist with a few olives.

  • To create a Dry Martini, all you have to do is alter the measurements of the ingredients by using less vermouth and more gin or vodka.

  • You can add your own flair by making different kinds of martinis by using fruit juices and other ingredients for garnish. A popular variation of this cocktail is an Espresso Martini made with an ounce of espresso and garnished with a few coffee beans.
