The Mixology Index: Tools and Utensils

Bar Spoon - This spoon has a longer handle than a usual spoon and is usually made of stainless steel. It’s to ensure that it can reach the bottom of any glass or shaker when mixing a drink.

Drip Tray - As the name suggests, it’s meant to catch any drips, excess liquid, or spills when creating and pouring a drink. It also protects the bar counter and helps it stay clean.

Garnish Tray - This is a container that usually has about 4 to 6 compartments. This is where the garnishes such as lemon and lime slices, cherries, olives, herbs, and such are stored. It’s designed for easy access and to cut down on time when mixing up a drink. Some garnish trays have space underneath where the garnish compartments sit wherein ice may be stored in order to keep the garnish cold and fresh.

Muddler - This tool is used to muddle ingredients to further bring out taste and aroma. Some muddlers are made of steel with some rubber at the handle for grip, and some can be made from wood or plastic. The heads of the muddlers can also vary. There are some with a flat end and some may have a grid or ridges.
