After what felt like forever, we are finally at the coattails of the pandemic and traveling is no longer imaginary. The days of us having to pass by check points just to be able to get to one city to another is but a fleeting memory. Now we can go to (almost) all the islands in the Philippines that our hearts desires.
However, what is it is our first-time flying domestic or flying in general? What are the must-knows before we hop on a plane? Well, luckily, we’ve curated a list of the simple things we need to remember when boarding.
It Pays To Know Things
You simply cannot just buy a ticket blindly and expect it to be just like riding a bus. In fact, even buses have procedures now. What more is there when you are about to travel inter-Island. Check the rules and regulations when you buy your tickets.
The first step should always be to plan. Look into the process of purchasing the tickets and make sure you read every detail. This is because you might have questions that are already answered by simply looking into the details.
No More Filipino Time
It is a well-known fact that the only time, stereotypically, we go to a place extra early is during flights. In fact, some go as far as leaving the house 4 hours before the flight. No matter how close they are to the NAIA airport. There is a wisdom in this over reaction. No plane will wait for you and booking another flight is just not worth it, and sometimes not even a possibility.
There are also multiple things to consider such as checking-in manually or checking in the baggage that you have. There is also the matter of finding the correct terminal, the lines and of course, the infamous Manila traffic.
Print Out Your Itinerary
Make sure you know every detail of your itinerary: the terminal, the gate—everything! For easier navigation of the intense crowd at the airport it is better to print them out or have a copy in your phone. As there will be instances where you will be needing them. The only problem of going mobile is what if your phone dies or there is some kind of mishap in your internet? Bottomline a printed out a copy is your best bet.
An additional tip is to have a little folder or a bag for everything that you need: documents, IDs and all those other knick-knacks.
Expect the unexpected. All in all, the key is to be prepared. Always have everything you need, double (even triple) check the details and nitty-gritties. It is better to go the extra mile and be overly prepared than under prepared. This is because unlike the bus terminals, van terminals, etc. Flights are strict when it comes to when and where they take off. It is also quite pricey. Unlike in a land vehicle wherein you can just finagle your way to where you need to go, airports have systems that are strictly in place.
