FOOD REVIEW: This Romantic Boracay Restaurant Serves a Steak Worth Traveling For

To steak lovers in Boracay, you’re in for a delectable treat at Kawayan Terrace Steak Night. Sure, you may stumble upon restaurants that serve steaks in many places all over the island, but Kawayan’s pan grilled prime US beef platter is one meal not to be missed.

Jaime Barlizo, Kawayan’s co-owner and dedicated steak griller is the one who cooks the steak for his guests. As a steak-lover who has sampled several steaks in his travels and frequently cooked steak meals for his big family, his palate for discerning and achieving the optimal steak is well tested and consistently achieved, and to those who have eaten in his restaurant’s romantic dining area, his steak prowess is indeed legendary.
In truth, from the first slice into the steak, sensing the sleekness of how the knife cuts through the meat, exposing its moist redness, I, being a steak lover as well, could already tell that I was in for a tender juicy steak experience. Thus, on the first bite, whilst recognizing the chewing ease of my mouth being filled by the intrinsic flavor of well cooked steak, I was already sold.
The way the steak was cooked was just right by me; sauces of any kind was no longer needed for my taste, although it was available for those who prefer external enhancers. But for me, just a sprinkle of salt and freshly ground pepper onto the steak that’s lavished by the meat’s own oil was simply perfect.
Amid side dishes of caramelized onion, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables, I was compelled to enjoy the steak on its own and to capture its integral flavor and firm texture, retaining its tender quality. The bottle of Argentinian red wine that was included in the meal, was however, a perfect complement to the steak. And, for as long as there was that finely cooked piece of meat on that sizzling plate, that good quality wine was just necessary to inject a bit of excitement throughout my one-of-a-kind steak dinner.

Incidentally, aside from the steak, Kawayan’s candlelit ambience and mediterranean dining setup of white seating areas and tables reminded me of the iconic Steak House Boracay, which had stood along white beach, near Boat Station 1. Since its closing almost 10 years ago, I have never gone to a restaurant to treat myself for a prime steak dinner anymore, until now. The Steak Night at Kawayan Terrace, for me, is the reincarnation of Steak House in every bite and mood.
Yet, having a remote atmosphere, slightly away from the Main Road and less than 10 minutes walk to the tranquil side of white beach, known as Angol, Kawayan Terrace essentially offers a distinct kind of serenity and comfort that truly allows diners to taste, assimilate and appreciate the steak and their other food offerings in its entirety.
The level of service from their dedicated staff, on the other hand, was just what I had expected from a family-run boutique restaurant. They were friendly, attentive and equipped to cater to a dining capacity of 40 people at meal time.
In fact, Jaime and his wife, co-owner, Bianca, have already hosted several private parties and community events in their lovely enclave, which turned out to be quite successful. Of course, having a gated entryway by the road defined a niche market of foodies who appreciate quality hearty food, families with children who prefer a more quiet dining experience and remote workers who need a spacious, comfortable and calm place to set their laptop on.
With a snug and breezy atmosphere, one could really lose track of time in Kawayan Terrace, especially when an all-day breakfast and cheesy turon are available to complement your morning state-of-mind.
But going back to steaks, if you ever crave for a delightful and flavorful steak meal in Boracay, then you must not miss out on their fabulous Steak Night.
