How to conquer fear of public speaking

What is the most common phobia ahead of death, spiders or heights? The fear of public speaking, that’s what. In fact, even those most seasoned speakers are still frightened when they are asked to talk before a huge crowd.

 

Breathes there a man or woman with a soul so dead who likes public speaking. The US National Institute of Mental Health reports that public speaking affects about 73% of the population. So, if you are afraid of being invited as a guest speaker or lecturer, you are in good company. 

 

“Some individuals may feel a slight nervousness at the very thought of public speaking, while others experience full-on panic and fear,” Rosemary Black wrote in www.psycom.net. “They may try to avoid public speaking situations at all cost or if they must speak in public, they endure shaking hands and a weak, quavering voice.”
