WOFEX Drinks + Bakes 2025

March was filled with many industry events. However, we know that not all events are made the same. WOFEX always does a great job of bringing the food and beverage industry's key players and newbies all to the same vibrant space. Here’s a quick rundown of the 3-day event held at the World Trade Center in Pasay.

As per usual, there were a few stages set up throughout the space for presentations, exhibitions, and competitions to take place. There was a small stage in the lobby area with a few rows of seats for the audience, where they could watch different chefs demonstrate tips and tricks on using specific kitchen products and tools. There was also a display of impressive cakes in the lobby area, which were very much photo-worthy. From realistic cakes shaped like animals to movie and book characters, as well as fruity and floral arrangements, just from the lobby area, there was already much to see.

As you walk through the crowds and booths, you’ll probably find that the smell of coffee is calling you. If you follow your nose, it will most likely lead you towards the back of the hall to the coffee competition area. Many people gathered around to see the contestants work their magic, making it all look so easy. The Philippine International Coffee Competition had four competitions lined up over the course of three days. On March 27th, the International Espresso Championship and the International Coffee Sensory Championship were held. The International Cafe Brewing Battle was on the 28th, while the International Coffee and Spirits Showdown was held on the last day, March 29th. The prizes included not only cash but also barista scholarships.

There were other exciting competitions that were also taking place simultaneously. The Philippine Bar Scene held a Tea Mixology Competition, while Cake Fiesta Manila hosted the qualifying competition for all Asian countries for the World Championship: Cake Design Category. The Board of Judges was comprised of chefs from all over the world. Chef David Close, the Head Judge at Cake International UK, gave a bit of a talk during the competition explaining what goes into judging the finished outcome. He also talked about the work that goes into creating these cake masterpieces and gave the audience a little insight into the details that come into play during a competition. Other chefs included on the board were FIPG Head Judge Kristina Rado from Italy, Disney’s Foodtastic Series Judge Benny Rivera, and the host of the competition, Rosie Dummer.

Another stage to look out for was The Philippine Bar Scene, which partnered with DBWY to organize a few cocktail competitions. Contestants came from all over the country to showcase their own original recipes inspired by either where they came from, their heritage, or the culture of the country. There were interesting twists when it came to the ingredients, from purple sweet potatoes, homemade oil extracts, and using different cooking techniques to extract flavor from certain fruits made for an interesting and inspiring show. Surrounding the area of the stage were various brands of liquor, both local and imported, and many were handing out special cocktails and mixes that you could try. There was much to explore in terms of flavors and concoctions that you can probably try and replicate at home, since you can buy a bottle for yourself right there and then. From wine to gin and tequila, flavored liqueurs and even syrups, they had it all. Whether a cocktail newbie or an at-home amateur mixologist, there was something for everyone.

Aside from drinks, food, and competitions, there were also many booths catering to people who are looking to start a business in the food and beverage industry. There were brands that were ready for franchising, some of which were quite affordable, especially if you are just starting out. There were also many companies that were doing wholesale and offering products in bulk if you already had a business and were looking for suppliers. There were plenty of suppliers of not just equipment but also ingredients, as well as packaging. As you walk around the whole place, you’ll be able to compare prices and products in real time between all the different companies and suppliers, which makes the decision process a little easier since you can see everything firsthand versus scrolling through the internet. You can also talk to a representative and ask them all your questions, and maybe even be able to strike a deal within the day. Some had special deals and discounted prices for the time of the event only.

As per usual, WOFEX is a great event for not only people already in the industry but for ones looking to join in, or even students who are interested in food, beverage, culinary, mixology, and the like. You will not only be entertained but also learn a lot from the different presentations from well-known brands, as well as chefs and creators.
