Changi Airport Group (CAG) has completed its first satellite gate, marking a significant milestone in improving passenger boarding and disembarkation for flights operating from remote aircraft parking stands. The facility is currently undergoing final operational preparations, with selected flights expected to begin using the satellite gate in August 2026.

Situated within the airport's airfield, the 200-square-meter, air-conditioned satellite gate features two aerobridges that allow passengers to board and disembark directly from aircraft under shelter, regardless of weather conditions. Passengers will be transported by bus between the terminal and the satellite gate before accessing their aircraft.
Currently, approximately 98 percent of passenger flights at Changi Airport use terminal contact gates equipped with aerobridges. The remaining flights operate from remote parking stands, which help maximize apron capacity during peak operational periods. The new satellite gate is designed to enhance the travel experience for passengers using these remote stands.
The facility incorporates a 60-meter gently sloping access ramp to improve accessibility for wheelchair users, senior citizens, families with strollers, children, and travelers carrying wheeled cabin baggage. It also provides a safer and more comfortable working environment for airport personnel managing remote flight operations.
Designed as a zero-energy facility, the satellite gate is powered entirely by rooftop solar panels and an off-grid battery system. It also integrates smart building technologies, including automated air-conditioning that adjusts according to flight schedules and a wireless fault-reporting system to support efficient maintenance.
Since May 2026, more than 500 airport staff have participated in training programs and operational trials to ensure the facility is ready for service.
"Every element of the satellite gate has been designed with passenger experience, universal accessibility, staff-friendliness and operational practicality in mind," said Koh Ming Sue, Executive Vice President for Engineering & Development at Changi Airport Group.
According to CAG, insights gained from the operational trials will help evaluate the feasibility of constructing additional satellite gates in the future, taking into account passenger traffic growth and evolving operational requirements.
