“Tourism is Our Lifeline”: Philippines Celebrates Travel Advisors at ITATOA Gathering

In a lively gathering of nearly 150 travel advisors, the Philippines’ tourism sector reaffirmed its vital role in the nation’s economy and heart. Speaking at the Independent Travel Agencies and Tour Operators Association (ITATOA) event on December 8, Christina Garcia Frasco, Secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT), left no doubt: “Tourism is not only an economic driver; it is a lifeline.”

Founded in 2018, ITATOA represents a dynamic community of 130 local members and 15 international allies. At the B2B event, Secretary Frasco emphasized the often-overlooked power of travel advisors. “Travel agencies and tour operators do more than process bookings; they guide choices, ensure safety and convenience, and craft experiences that leave lasting memories. You are the frontliners of our hospitality and ambassadors of our culture and identity.”

The event’s theme, “Royals: Celebrating Excellence Through Unity and Innovation,” was reflected not only in the decor but also in the attendees’ regal attire. Frasco highlighted unity and innovation as essential pillars of sustainable growth, signaling the Philippines’ commitment to nurturing a resilient, forward-thinking tourism industry.

For travel advisors, tour operators, and hospitality insiders, the gathering was more than a networking opportunity; it was a celebration of the people who make the Philippines’ tourism story possible. In Frasco’s words, it’s a reminder that behind every itinerary and reservation is a dedicated professional shaping unforgettable experiences.
