NEWS: Dubai Unveils Mobile Border Control Service That Processes Travelers in Seconds
DUBAI Airport immigration in Dubai is going mobile.
Dubai has introduced Click & Travel, a new mobile border-processing service that allows immigration officers to process passengers anywhere within the airport terminal, potentially completing an entry or departure transaction in just 12 to 15 seconds.
Instead of requiring travelers to queue at conventional immigration counters, officers equipped with mobile devices can carry out passport-control procedures on the move. The technology combines facial recognition and other biometric verification with electronic passport reading and secure access to the systems and databases of Dubai’s General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs.
The initiative is aimed at giving airport authorities greater flexibility in managing passenger flows, particularly during peak travel periods, congestion and operational emergencies.
Dubai Airports said the service can also be deployed to assist passengers who may require additional support, offering an alternative to conventional processing points.
More than 31,000 transactions during pilot
Click & Travel completed approximately 31,373 transactions during its pilot phase, which ran from May through August 31, 2026.
The mobile service is designed to work alongside Dubai’s existing passport-control infrastructure, including conventional immigration counters and Smart Gates, rather than replace them.
For departing passengers, Click & Travel is currently available to UAE citizens, residents and visitors.
On arrival, the first phase is limited to UAE citizens and residents. Dubai authorities plan to progressively extend the service to additional traveler categories, including tourists, subject to approved operational requirements.
The launch marks another step in Dubai’s broader move toward technology-enabled airport processing, with mobile biometric clearance offering authorities a way to respond more dynamically to changing passenger volumes while reducing dependence on fixed immigration counters.
