Oakman Inns & Restaurants, the premium pub and restaurant group founded in 2007 by entrepreneur Peter Borg-Neal, has entered administration following ongoing financial challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and rising operational costs.
As part of the administration process, a total of 19 sites will be affected. Six locations have ceased trading and closed permanently, while 13 have been successfully transferred to Upham Inns, a well-established operator of premium pubs with rooms.
The company, which has operated across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and the Midlands, cited the long-term impact of the pandemic, elevated interest rates, and increased costs as contributing factors to its financial difficulties.
The restructuring will result in the unfortunate loss of up to 159 jobs. However, approximately 531 employees will be retained and transferred to Upham Inns as part of the acquisition.
A spokesperson for Oakman Inns said:"We are deeply saddened by the impact this outcome will have on our employees and guests. Despite our best efforts to navigate the post-pandemic landscape, the challenging economic environment has made it impossible to continue operations in our current form."
Upham Inns has expressed its commitment to integrating the acquired sites into its existing portfolio while preserving the guest experience and providing continuity for the majority of staff.
