PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Schools Are Rethinking What Student Safety Really Means

TAGUIG CITY, Philippines — Recent incidents involving dangers in Philippine educational institutions have intensified conversations around campus safety, prompting schools to reexamine how they protect and support students.

Discussions often center on physical security measures such as emergency response systems and campus protocols. However, educators are also recognizing another important dimension of student safety: a stronger sense of belonging and connection within the campus community.

According to the 2025 EDUCAUSE Students and Technology Report, students are placing greater value on digital platforms that make campus life easier to navigate, connect them with opportunities, and strengthen their sense of belonging. Gallup research has similarly found that meaningful relationships and active participation in campus life play a significant role in shaping positive student experiences.

These findings have prompted many universities globally to look beyond classrooms and lecture halls when designing the student experience. Student engagement is increasingly viewed not simply as participation in extracurricular activities but as an important component of institutional culture, helping create campuses where students feel seen, supported, and encouraged to contribute.
