Sands China Ltd. announced today that it has surpassed 1.1 billion cumulative visitors across its Macao properties, marking a historic milestone in more than two decades of investment and development in the city.
The company commemorated the occasion with a special welcome ceremony at The Venetian® Macao, where it celebrated its 1.1 billionth guest on the same day the iconic resort marked its 18th anniversary. Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., and Grant Chum, the company’s chief executive officer and executive director, presented commemorative gifts to the milestone visitor.
Sands China’s journey began in 2004 with the opening of Sands® Macao, the city’s first large-scale hotel and entertainment complex. The launch of The Venetian Macao in 2007 transformed the Cotai Strip, establishing Macao as a premier destination for integrated resorts. Since then, the company has continued to expand with landmark properties including The Plaza® Macao (2008), Sands® Cotai Central (2012, now The Londoner® Macao), and The Parisian Macao (2016).
“Surpassing 1.1 billion arrivals is not only a significant milestone for the company, but also a testament to the enduring appeal of Macao’s tourism offerings and the strength of its economic development,” said Dr. Wong. “This achievement would not have been possible without the support of the central and SAR governments, our 27,000 team members, and more than 2,500 suppliers.”
Over the past 20 years, Sands China has invested more than MOP 134.5 billion (US$16.77 billion) in Macao, creating over 10,000 hotel rooms, 150 dining options, and 760 retail outlets. The company’s integrated resorts also feature a 150,000-square-metre meetings and conventions centre, two arenas, and four theatres with a combined seating capacity of more than 25,000.
