Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) has announced the launch of the Cooling Sentosa Roadmap, a ground breaking initiative that combines technology and nature-based solutions to make Singapore’s premier island resort a cooler, more comfortable destination for all visitors.
At the heart of this initiative is the Sentosa Cooling Network, a series of interconnected “cooling nodes and zones” designed to lower ambient temperatures by up to 4°C across key areas of the island. These include shaded canopies, cooling fans, misting systems, and hydration points that enhance guest comfort. At least 10 cooling zones are set to be established by 2030.
The first trial site, Siloso Beach, is already showcasing the roadmap in action. The area features Nippon Paint COOL-TEC coatings to reduce surface heat, newly installed misting systems, and expanded shaded areas to improve the visitor experience.
Several of Sentosa’s key partners have pledged their support, including Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), Mount Faber Leisure Group, Raffles Sentosa Singapore, and Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa.
“Outdoor areas such as WEAVE and Universal Studios Singapore already integrate advanced cooling solutions—from ETFE roofing and high-performance glass that minimize solar heat, to energy-efficient cooling systems and air circulation technologies,” said Lee Shi Ruh, CEO of Resorts World Sentosa. “These technologies not only enhance comfort in our spaces but also align with Sentosa’s broader vision of becoming a smarter, more sustainable destination.”
The Cooling Sentosa Roadmap reflects SDC’s commitment to innovative sustainability and visitor well-being, setting a new benchmark for climate-resilient tourism in the region.
